Mongolian Mining Knowledge Exchange, 18 December

December 18, 2018 0 By Stephen Lezak

Earlier today, the Oxford and Mongolian teams led a knowledge exchange with representatives from mining companies, government ministries, and NGOs. Our goal was to learn about the day-to-day experiences of industry and regulators when trying to manage conflict and benefit sharing in the Mongolian mining sector. The conversation featured candid reflections about the challenges and opportunities in this sector, and there was a general interest in how the Gobi Framework can help establish evidence-based best practices in this complicated but critical arena.

Our closed-door conversation will lead to a short policy brief which will be finalized in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we wanted to make our presentation publically available. It includes two sections:

  1. The findings from our literature review on conflict resolution and stakeholder engagement in extractive industry; and
  2. A case study from Peru which provided a framework to guide a conversation about best practices in community-industry relationships.

As always, reach out to us at gobiframework@ouce.oc.ac.uk with any questions or comments! We’d love to hear from you.
